SSR Movies: Bollywood, South Indian and Hollywood movies, from Dhurandhar and Pushpa 2 to Manjummel Boys and Kantara
In early 2018, SSR Movies was a bright, busy blog for Indian film fans. Its menu read 300MB Movies, Dual Audio Movies, Bollywood Movies, Hollywood Movies, Hindi Dubbed Movies and TV Shows, and its front page filled up every day with new cards: a Bollywood comedy one hour, a Hollywood thriller the next. The colours were unmistakable, a pale aqua page, a sky-blue menu and small coral labels. SSR Movies today keeps that cheerful look and gives it a better purpose: every Bollywood hit, South Indian blockbuster, Hollywood favourite and web series opens on the official services that carry it in your country, through one Watch now button.
This guide starts with the page itself: the top link bar, the big sky-blue wordmark, the menu bar, the post cards and the widget sidebar. Then it tours the shelves: Bollywood, the four great South Indian industries of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada cinema, Hollywood, and the Indian web series everyone is bingeing. It closes with the practical side: Hindi audio and subtitles, where each film streams in India and abroad, devices, free viewing, My List and safe streaming. For the short version, read how to watch on SSR Movies.
The SSR Movies design
The 2018 site ran on SociallyViral, a WordPress magazine theme, customised with a block of inline styles that the archive preserved. That block gives every colour on SSR Movies today. The page is a pale aqua, #EAFCFF, fresh and summery. A thin top bar runs in a soft light blue, #9DD0F8, with dark text. The wordmark and the menu share a clear sky blue, #33BCF2, and the accent is a warm coral, #F47555, used for labels, hovers and underlines. Titles on the post cards are set in Georgia, which gives the blog a friendly, newspaper feel, while headings and menus use Roboto.
The rebuild keeps those measurements and adds one careful change: link text on the pale page is a deeper blue, #1B6F9A, and hovers take a darker coral, so everything reads comfortably on any screen.
The top bar and header
At the very top, the light-blue bar holds a short tagline on the left and four small links on the right: How to watch, Help, My List and Privacy, separated by thin rules, exactly where the 2018 site kept its policy links. Below it, the header centres the big SSR Movies wordmark: a sky-blue film frame with a coral strip and a white play triangle, then SSR in sky blue and Movies in coral. Beside it sits a wide search box with a sky-blue button that turns coral when you point at it.
The notice line
Under the menu, a single red line begins with Please note, a small tribute to the 2018 banner that told visitors about the site's other addresses. Today it carries the one note that matters: SSR Movies is a guide, and every title opens on the official services in your country. A white welcome card with a coral top edge follows, with four sky-blue buttons for Bollywood, South Indian, Hollywood and Web Series.
The post cards
The heart of the page is a grid of white post cards, five across on a wide screen, just like the nineteen-percent-wide cards of the original. Each card opens with a wide image two hundred pixels tall, taken from the film's backdrop, with a coral label in the corner showing its language: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada or English. Below comes the title with its year in Georgia, and a small grey line with two genres and the score. A soft shadow lifts each card off the pale page, and it deepens when you point at it.
The first row, Latest updates, shows the newest titles across every industry, so a visit might open with Dhurandhar, Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1 and Coolie side by side. Rows for Bollywood, South Indian, Hollywood and Web series follow, each headed by a sky-blue label in capitals with a View all link.
A title page
Each title page opens with the backdrop and poster, then the title, year, running time, genres and score. The story follows, with the director and cast and their photos. The Watch now panel lets you choose your country, and Add to My List sits beside it. Web series pages add every season with its episodes, dates and summaries. A row of related titles closes each page, so a visit to RRR leads naturally to Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion and Eega.
Bollywood
The Bollywood shelf gathers nearly forty Hindi films, from the crowd-pleasers of the early 2010s to this year's talking points. The Bollywood guide keeps a short list; here is the longer tour.
Shah Rukh Khan's remarkable 2023 is all here: Pathaan, a globe-trotting spy thriller, Jawan, a crowd-pleasing vigilante drama from Atlee, and Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani's warm story of friends dreaming of England. Earlier, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Dilwale and Dear Zindagi showed his lighter side. Aamir Khan brings PK, Dangal, the true story of the wrestling Phogat sisters, and Laal Singh Chaddha, an Indian retelling of Forrest Gump. Salman Khan has Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger.
The recent action wave is big and loud. Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar's spy saga with Ranveer Singh, became the talk of late 2025. War pits Hrithik Roshan against Tiger Shroff in a globe-trotting chase, Fighter takes him into the skies with the Indian Air Force, KILL traps a commando on a speeding night train, and Uri: The Surgical Strike retells a real military operation. Sooryavanshi, Attack, Rowdy Rathore and Dhoom 3 add more thrills.
SSR Movies on a phone
On a phone, SSR Movies keeps its bright look in a narrower frame. The top bar keeps its small links, the wordmark shrinks beside a sky-blue menu button, and the menu opens as a full panel with the search box at the top. The post cards drop to two per row with slightly shorter images, the sidebar widgets move below the main rows, and every card keeps its coral language label and Georgia title. The whole page is quick to load, even on a busy mobile connection, and every button is large enough for a thumb.
Bollywood with heart
Some of the best Hindi films are quieter. 12th Fail follows Manoj Kumar Sharma's real journey from a village in Chambal to the Indian Police Service, and became one of the most loved films of 2023. The Lunchbox builds a friendship through notes in a misdelivered lunch tiffin, Sir tells a tender story between a Mumbai businessman and his housekeeper, and Andhadhun is a darkly funny thriller about a pianist who pretends to be blind.
Tumbbad is a gorgeous folk-horror tale about greed, Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 a sprawling crime saga, and Crew a sparkling heist comedy with Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon as flight attendants. Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins pairs Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat in a caper around a legendary diamond.
Bollywood romance
Love stories are a Bollywood speciality. Saiyaara, Mohit Suri's 2025 musical romance, became a surprise phenomenon with its songs. Aashiqui 2 and Sanam Teri Kasam are tearjerkers with devoted fans, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is Karan Johar's big, colourful family romance, and Student Of The Year launched a new generation of stars. For grand history, Padmaavat retells the legend of Rani Padmavati on a lavish scale, and Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva builds a fantasy universe from Indian mythology. Open Bollywood movies.
South Indian cinema
The rise of South Indian films across the whole country and the world has been the biggest story in Indian cinema this decade. The original SSR Movies had a whole menu for Hindi dubbed movies, and South Indian cinema remains at the heart of SSR Movies today, with nearly eighty films across four industries. The South Indian guide gives the quick version.
Telugu cinema
S. S. Rajamouli opened the doors. Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion turned a warrior epic into a pan-Indian event, and Bāhubali: The Epic brings both parts together in a single cut. RRR, his friendship-and-freedom saga with N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan, won the Oscar for its song Naatu Naatu. His earlier Eega follows a murdered man reborn as a housefly, bent on revenge, and remains one of the most inventive films in any language.
Allu Arjun's Pushpa films, Pushpa: The Rise and Pushpa 2 - The Rule, follow a sandalwood smuggler's rise and broke box-office records across India. Prabhas leads Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, Saaho and Kalki 2898-AD, a science-fiction epic set in a future drawn from the Mahabharata. Devara: Part 1 is a coastal action drama, and Peddi brings Ram Charan to a village sports story in 2026.
Telugu cinema also has quieter gems. Sita Ramam is a sweeping love story told through a letter, Hi Nanna a tender father-daughter drama with Nani, Lucky Baskhar a clever banking thriller with Dulquer Salmaan, and Major the true story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Ante... Sundaraniki!, V, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and HIT: The Third Case round out the shelf. Open Telugu movies.
Tamil cinema
Tamil cinema combines mass entertainers with some of India's sharpest storytelling. Lokesh Kanagaraj built a connected world of gangsters and cops: Vikram, with Kamal Haasan leading a covert squad, Leo and Master with Vijay, and Coolie, his 2025 film with Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth also leads Jailer, Nelson's hit about a retired jailer protecting his family, and Vijay has Beast and Varisu.
The acclaimed films stand beside the blockbusters. Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi's fiftieth film, is a revenge thriller with a brilliant twist, and Amaran tells the true story of Major Mukund Varadarajan. Meiyazhagan is a gentle, moving film about a man revisiting his childhood town, and Ponniyin Selvan: Part I brings Kalki's historical novel to the screen through Mani Ratnam. Young star Pradeep Ranganathan leads Dragon and Dude, two of 2025's biggest Tamil hits.
For thrillers, Thani Oruvan pits a young police officer against a powerful scientist, Irumbu Thirai warns about cyber fraud, and Mahaan pairs Vikram with his son Dhruv in a family crime saga. Yennai Arindhaal is a stylish Ajith Kumar cop drama. Open Tamil movies.
Malayalam cinema
Malayalam cinema has become India's favourite discovery, with small, clever films that travel far beyond Kerala. Manjummel Boys retells the true story of friends whose trip to the Guna Caves turns into a rescue, and became one of the industry's biggest hits. Premalu is a breezy romantic comedy set in Hyderabad, Aavesham gives Fahadh Faasil a larger-than-life gangster role, and 2018 recreates the Kerala floods through the people who lived them.
The Goat Life, Blessy's long-awaited film with Prithviraj Sukumaran, follows a migrant worker stranded in the desert. Bramayugam, shot in black and white, casts Mammootty as a mysterious lord in a haunted mansion, and Minnal Murali and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra give Kerala its own superheroes. Lucifer and Thudarum are Mohanlal crowd-pleasers, and Kishkindha Kaandam and Sookshmadarshini are clever mysteries.
Romance and drama complete the picture: Premam and Hridayam follow young men through love and college, Virus recreates the Nipah outbreak, Jana Gana Mana is a courtroom thriller, and Officer on Duty and Iratta are gripping police dramas. All We Imagine as Light, Payal Kapadia's film about nurses in Mumbai, won the Grand Prix at Cannes. Open Malayalam movies.
Kannada cinema
Kannada cinema made a thunderous entrance onto the national stage with K.G.F: Chapter 1 and K.G.F: Chapter 2, Prashanth Neel's gold-mine gangster epic with Yash. Rishab Shetty's Kantara followed, rooted in coastal Karnataka's Bhoota Kola tradition, and its prequel Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1 became one of 2025's biggest films. Mahavatar Narsimha, an animated retelling of the Narasimha legend, surprised everyone with its success.
The quieter side is just as rich. 777 Charlie follows a lonely man and a stray Labrador on a road trip, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A is a delicate love story, Thithi a wry village comedy about a hundred-year-old man's funeral, and Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana a gritty tale of two friends in Mangaluru. Kirik Party, Love Mocktail, Dia, Su from So, Avane Srimannarayana, Vikrant Rona, Bagheera, Martin and Rangi Taranga complete a shelf full of surprises. Open Kannada movies.
Stars across the industries
Indian cinema is built around stars with devoted fan bases. Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, the three Khans, have led Bollywood for three decades, and a new generation of Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan and Vicky Kaushal carries the action films. In Telugu cinema, Prabhas, Allu Arjun, N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan and Nani lead, each with a distinct style, from mythic heroes to everyday men.
Tamil cinema has Rajinikanth, still the biggest crowd-puller in the south, Vijay, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, Vijay Sethupathi and Sivakarthikeyan. Malayalam cinema has the two giants Mohanlal and Mammootty alongside Fahadh Faasil, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas, and Kannada cinema has Yash, Rishab Shetty, Rakshit Shetty and Sudeep. Search for a star's name, and the films on SSR Movies featuring that actor appear.
Festival releases
Indian films often release around festivals, when families head to the cinema together. Diwali and Eid bring the biggest Bollywood releases, Sankranti is the busiest season for Telugu films, Pongal for Tamil films and Onam for Malayalam ones, while Christmas and the summer holidays bring the big family entertainers. A few weeks or months after the cinema run, most of these films arrive on the streaming services, often with new language tracks added. The New releases shelf and the Latest updates row always show the newest titles first.
True stories
Many of the most moving Indian films are based on real events. Dangal follows wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat training his daughters, 12th Fail follows Manoj Kumar Sharma's climb to the police service, and Major and Amaran honour two army officers who gave their lives for their country. Manjummel Boys and 2018 recreate real rescues in Kerala, Virus recreates the fight against the Nipah outbreak, and Uri: The Surgical Strike retells a military operation. The Goat Life is based on the true story of a migrant worker's ordeal in the desert.
Hollywood
Hollywood has always had a huge audience in India, and the Hollywood shelf gathers nearly forty of the films Indian viewers love most. Marvel leads the way: Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were record-breaking releases in Indian cinemas, joined by Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Spider-Man fans have Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and the two animated Spider-Verse films.
The big-screen spectacles are here too: Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Dune, Dune: Part Two and Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's Best Picture winner. Joker, The Batman, John Wick: Chapter 4, Fast X and Hacksaw Ridge bring drama and action, and Project Hail Mary leads the 2026 releases. The Hollywood guide picks highlights, and the shelf is at Hollywood movies.
Films for the family
For a family evening, SSR Movies has animation and gentle adventures from every industry. Coco, Frozen II, Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2, The Wild Robot and The Super Mario Bros. Movie suit every age, and many of them stream with Hindi, Tamil and Telugu audio. 777 Charlie is a favourite with dog lovers, Eega delights children with its tiny hero, and Mahavatar Narsimha brings Indian mythology to animation. Open Family and animation.
Indian web series
Indian web series have become some of the most watched shows in the country. The Family Man follows Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class father secretly working for an intelligence agency, with Manoj Bajpayee in a much-loved role. Farzi follows an artist drawn into counterfeiting, Special Ops tracks a hunt for a terrorist mastermind across two decades, and Delhi Crime recreates a real investigation with remarkable care and won an International Emmy.
Panchayat is the gentlest show on the shelf: an engineering graduate takes a job as secretary of a village council in Uttar Pradesh and slowly falls in love with village life. Bandish Bandits is a romance between a classical singer and a pop star, Made in Heaven follows two Delhi wedding planners, The Ba***ds of Bollywood is Aryan Khan's satire of the film industry, and Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web follows customs officers chasing a smuggling ring. The web series guide sums them up, and the shelf is at Indian web series.
English series
For English-language TV, Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, Yellowstone, Fargo, Reacher, Silo and FROM are the favourites, and The Rookie, 9-1-1, Chicago P.D. and The Good Doctor make comfortable long-running companions. Ted Lasso and Young Sheldon bring the comedy, and The Flash and Lucifer the superheroes and the supernatural. Open English TV shows.
The genre shelves
Beside the industry shelves, SSR Movies groups every title by genre, and the Categories widget lists them all. Action is the biggest, with nearly ninety titles: from K.G.F: Chapter 2, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, Jawan and Pathaan to John Wick: Chapter 4 and Top Gun: Maverick, plus series like The Family Man and Reacher. Indian action has its own flavour, with slow-motion entrances, larger-than-life heroes and songs in the middle of the story.
Thriller and crime is next, with Andhadhun, Maharaja, Vikram, Kishkindha Kaandam, Sookshmadarshini, Delhi Crime and Farzi. Comedy brings Premalu, Crew, Chennai Express, Ante... Sundaraniki!, Su from So and Panchayat, and Romance has Sita Ramam, Saiyaara, Hridayam, Premam, Love Mocktail and Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A.
Top rated
The Top rated shelf gathers the titles scoring 7.7 or more on TMDB with a solid number of votes, and it is a wonderful mix of India and Hollywood. Manjummel Boys, 12th Fail, Maharaja, Sita Ramam and 777 Charlie sit beside Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Better Call Saul and Panchayat. It is the best shelf for a guaranteed good evening, and the Top rated widget in the sidebar shows its leaders on every visit. Open Top rated.
New releases
The New releases shelf gathers the films and series of 2025 and 2026, newest first. Among them are Dhurandhar, Saiyaara, Coolie, Dragon, Dude, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, Thudarum, Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1, Su from So and Mahavatar Narsimha, along with Peddi and Project Hail Mary in 2026. New releases arrive on the streaming services a few weeks after their cinema run, and Watch now shows where each one is available right now. Open New releases.
How Watch now works
Every title page on SSR Movies has a Watch now panel with a country list: India first, then the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Germany, France and the Philippines, the places where Indian films have the biggest audiences. Choose yours and press Watch now; SSR Movies opens the title's JustWatch page for that country.
JustWatch groups the options into subscription, rental, purchase and free. Pick one and the film or series opens in that service's own app or website. SSR Movies remembers your country, so the next title opens straight to the right list.
Where Indian films stream
In India, the big services divide the catalogue between them. Netflix carries many recent Telugu, Tamil and Hindi hits after their cinema run, along with series like Delhi Crime and The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Prime Video carries a large share of South Indian films and series such as The Family Man, Farzi, Panchayat and Bandish Bandits. JioHotstar carries Disney and Marvel along with Special Ops and many Hindi and Malayalam films, and ZEE5, SonyLIV and Aha carry regional films, with Aha focusing on Telugu and Tamil.
Abroad, Netflix and Prime Video carry many Indian titles, and the international versions of ZEE5 and JioHotstar serve viewers in the Gulf, North America and Europe. The line-up changes from country to country, which is why Watch now asks where you are. The page on where the films stream has more.
Hindi dubs and regional audio
The 2018 SSR Movies was built around dual-audio and Hindi-dubbed films, and that interest is as strong as ever. On the official services, most big South Indian releases now come with Hindi audio, often on the same day as the original, and many Hindi films offer Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada tracks. Hollywood films on Indian services frequently include Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs.
To switch, open the audio and subtitles menu in the player, the speech-bubble icon, and pick your language. English and Hindi subtitles are widely available, and closed captions add descriptions of sounds. Watching RRR, K.G.F: Chapter 2 or Kalki 2898-AD in Hindi, or 12th Fail with English subtitles, takes one tap. The page on Hindi audio, subtitles and HD explains each setting.
Phones, tablets and TVs
SSR Movies runs in any modern browser. On an Android phone, open the Chrome menu and choose Add to Home screen; on an iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. The SSR Movies icon appears with your other apps and opens the site full-screen, with your country and My List ready.
Films and series play in the official apps of each service, from Google Play or the App Store. On the television, the same apps run on Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV, smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL and Xiaomi, and on the set-top boxes of Indian operators. Chromecast and AirPlay send the picture from your phone to the big screen. The apps and devices page covers each one.
HD and 4K
The official services stream in HD as standard, mostly at 1080p, and the biggest releases often stream in 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos. Kalki 2898-AD, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, Pushpa 2 - The Rule, Dune: Part Two and Avatar: The Way of Water look their best on a 4K screen. Around five megabits per second is enough for smooth HD and about twenty-five for 4K. Many Indian services also offer data-saver modes for mobile viewing.
Songs and soundtracks
Music is at the heart of Indian cinema, and many films are remembered first for their songs. RRR's Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for Best Original Song, the first for an Indian film's song. Saiyaara's title track topped the charts in 2025, Aashiqui 2 made Tum Hi Ho a modern classic, and Pushpa: The Rise sent Srivalli and Oo Antava around the world. A. R. Rahman scored Ponniyin Selvan: Part I, Anirudh Ravichander brought his energy to Jailer, Leo, Vikram and Coolie, and Bandish Bandits is a whole series about Indian classical music.
Most services let you download the soundtrack from the music apps, and the films themselves are best enjoyed with good speakers or headphones. Many recent Indian films stream with Dolby Atmos sound, which brings their big musical numbers to life at home.
From cinema to streaming
Indian films usually reach streaming services four to eight weeks after their cinema release, sometimes sooner for smaller films and sometimes later for the biggest hits. Many South Indian films arrive on streaming with several language versions at once, so a Telugu hit can be watched in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada from day one. Web series, by contrast, premiere directly on their service, usually with a whole season released at once. Watch now always shows where a title is right now.
Free and legal viewing
Plenty of Indian films can be watched free and legally. JioHotstar, ZEE5 and Amazon MX Player offer free sections with adverts, and many studios publish older films on their official YouTube channels. When a title on SSR Movies has a free option in your country, it appears in the Watch now list beside the paid ones. Trial periods on subscription services are another good way to catch a short series like Farzi or Delhi Crime. The free movies page keeps a list.
My List
My List is the SSR Movies watchlist. Press Add to My List on any title page and it is saved in your browser, private to you. Open My List from the top bar to see everything you saved, and remove titles once you have watched them. For web series, mark the episode you reached on each season page, and SSR Movies remembers your place, handy for Panchayat, The Family Man or a long English series like Chicago P.D.. Export saves your list to a small file and Import restores it on another device. The My List page explains more.
Search and A-Z
The search box under the wordmark shows matching titles as you type, and it understands the many names a film can have. Typing Aadujeevitham finds The Goat Life, typing Baahubali brings up all three Bāhubali films, and typing KGF 2 finds K.G.F: Chapter 2. Press Enter for the full search page with filters for type, genre, year, language and score, and a sort menu for popularity, year, score or title. The A-Z list shows every title alphabetically, and finding a title collects every route.
Choosing what to watch
With four industries, Hollywood and web series in one place, a few questions help. Do you want a big mass entertainer or something quieter? The Latest updates row and the Popular now widget lean towards the big releases, while the Top rated widget brings up gems like Manjummel Boys, 12th Fail and Maharaja. Which language feels right tonight? The coral label on every card tells you at a glance, and the Categories widget has a shelf for each. And who is watching? The Family and animation shelf suits children, and the Thriller and crime shelf suits a late night.
Directors to follow
Some names promise a great evening. S. S. Rajamouli made Eega, the Baahubali films and RRR. Prashanth Neel made the K.G.F films and Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire. Lokesh Kanagaraj made Master, Vikram, Leo and Coolie. Rishab Shetty directed and starred in Kantara and Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1. In Hindi, Rajkumar Hirani made PK and Dunki, Sriram Raghavan made Andhadhun, and Aditya Dhar made Uri: The Surgical Strike and Dhurandhar. In Malayalam, Jithu Madhavan made Aavesham and Chidambaram made Manjummel Boys.
Reading the scores
The score on every card is the average TMDB rating out of ten. Indian films often have fewer votes on TMDB than Hollywood releases, so the title page also shows the number of votes: a score from thousands of voters, like that of RRR or Dangal, is very steady, while a newer regional film may move as more viewers rate it. Anything around eight has clearly delighted its audience, and the Top rated shelf gathers those titles. Use the score as a starting point, read the story on the title page, and let your own taste make the final call. Many of the most rewarding films on SSR Movies are smaller regional titles that deserve a wider audience.
Indian films abroad
Indian cinema has a huge audience outside India, from the Gulf to North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore. That is why the Watch now panel lists those countries right after India. In the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, Netflix, Prime Video and the regional services carry many Hindi and South Indian films. In the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, Netflix and Prime Video carry the biggest titles, and the international versions of ZEE5, SonyLIV and JioHotstar serve families who want the latest releases from home. Choose your country on any title page to see exactly what is available where you live.
Watching on mobile data
Many viewers in India watch on their phones, often on mobile data. Most official apps offer a data-saver setting that lowers the picture quality to save data, and most let you download films and episodes on Wi-Fi to watch later in airplane mode. SSR Movies itself is light on data: the pages load quickly, the posters are sized for phones, and the site works well on slower connections. Add it to your home screen and it opens in a single tap.
Watching with the whole family
Indian films are often watched by the whole family together, from grandparents to children. Most services let you create a profile for each person, with kids profiles showing age-appropriate titles for younger viewers, and parental controls based on certificate ratings. For a shared evening, Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, 777 Charlie, Hi Nanna, Panchayat and Coco suit every generation. The Family and animation shelf gathers more.
The language labels
The original SSR Movies put the language right in each post's title, with tags such as Hindi or Dual Audio. The rebuild keeps that idea in a cleaner form: every card carries a coral label with the film's original language, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada or English, and series add a Series tag. The label tells you the language the film was made in; the audio tracks on each service may include more, and the title page's Watch now panel leads you to the service where you can choose.
Ideas for a movie night
For a mass-entertainer double bill, pair Pushpa: The Rise with Pushpa 2 - The Rule, or the two K.G.F films. For a feel-good evening, Premalu followed by Hi Nanna is hard to beat. For a thriller night, try Andhadhun and Maharaja, two of the cleverest twist films in Indian cinema. For the whole family, 777 Charlie or Coco will please every age, and for a spooky night, Tumbbad and Bramayugam make a memorable pair.
Sagas and universes
Several of the biggest Indian films belong to connected worlds. The Bāhubali story runs through Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion, or through Bāhubali: The Epic in one sitting. The K.G.F saga continues in spirit in Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil universe links Vikram and Leo, with nods back to earlier films. The Kantara story now runs in two directions, with Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1 set centuries before Kantara. Pushpa's journey continues across two films, and Kalki 2898-AD and Devara: Part 1 both promise sequels.
The pan-India wave
A decade ago, most viewers watched films in their own language. Today, a Telugu or Kannada film can top the charts across India and abroad, and the official services release most big titles in several languages at once. RRR's Oscar for Naatu Naatu, Kantara's surprise national success and Manjummel Boys' journey from Kerala to cinemas across the south showed how far a good story can travel. SSR Movies groups all four South Indian industries together so you can discover them side by side.
Films worth a second look
Some films reward a rewatch. Andhadhun and Maharaja hide clues you only notice once you know the ending, Eega is packed with visual gags, and Kishkindha Kaandam plays very differently the second time. Tumbbad and Bramayugam reveal more detail in their images each time, and RRR's action sequences are simply a joy to watch again.
Recognising SSR Movies
SSR Movies has a clear look: a pale aqua page, a light-blue top link bar, the big sky-blue wordmark with its coral strip, a sky-blue menu bar, a red Please note line, and white cards with coral language labels and Georgia titles beside a sidebar of widgets. Bookmark the home page and add it to your phone's home screen. The official site page gives the details, and the site status page helps when a page loads slowly.
Safe streaming
A few habits keep streaming safe. Install apps only from Google Play, the App Store or your TV's store, keep your phone, browser and TV updated, and use a different strong password for each service with two-step sign-in switched on. Before you pay or sign in, check that the address bar shows the service's real name. SSR Movies sends you to JustWatch, and JustWatch sends you to the official services, so every step is trustworthy. The safety page has a checklist.
Why Malayalam cinema is booming
Few film industries have grown in reputation as quickly as Malayalam cinema. Its films are usually made on modest budgets, with strong scripts, natural performances and a willingness to try new ideas, from the survival drama of Manjummel Boys to the black-and-white horror of Bramayugam and the superhero fun of Minnal Murali. Streaming helped carry these films to viewers across India and abroad, many of whom discovered them with subtitles. Today a new Malayalam release is an event far beyond Kerala, and the Malayalam shelf on SSR Movies is one of its liveliest.
The Kannada breakthrough
For many years Kannada cinema was the least known of the southern industries outside Karnataka. The K.G.F films changed that almost overnight, and Kantara confirmed it, filling cinemas across India with a story rooted in a very local tradition. Directors like Rishab Shetty, Rakshit Shetty and Raj B. Shetty have built a reputation for personal, surprising films, and newer hits like Su from So show the range of the industry. The Kannada shelf is a great place to start exploring.
The rise of Indian web series
Indian web series grew from a handful of experiments into one of the country's most creative fields. Streaming gave writers room for longer stories and more varied subjects: a village office in Panchayat, a secret agent's family life in The Family Man, a real investigation in Delhi Crime, and the music world in Bandish Bandits. Many of these shows are now available with subtitles in several languages, and new seasons arrive regularly. The Web series shelf gathers the best of them, with every episode dated.
Privacy
SSR Movies keeps your data in your own browser. My List, your episode marks and your chosen country stay on your device, ready to clear at any time or move with Export and Import. Posters, stories, cast and episodes come from TMDB, the community film and TV database, and the viewing options come from JustWatch.
How the catalogue is chosen
The catalogue follows the original's categories. Bollywood, the four South Indian industries, Hollywood and TV shows each get their own shelf, chosen from the films and series with the largest audiences on TMDB and checked by hand. Every title comes with a poster, a story and a score, and web series come with their seasons and episodes. The catalogue focuses on films and scripted series, and leaves adult web series and daily soaps to other places.
A short history of SSR Movies
SSR Movies appeared in the mid-2010s as a movie blog for Indian audiences, moving between several addresses over the years. Its archived home page from February 2018 shows the design this site keeps: the pale aqua page, the light-blue top bar, the sky-blue wordmark and menu, the coral accents, the white post cards and the widget sidebar. Its menu covered Bollywood, Hollywood, Hindi dubbed films and TV shows, the same mix SSR Movies offers today, now with every title pointing to the official services.
